About 14 hours after the Sun’s preseason loss to New York, Meziane stayed true to his word and made the Sun’s first roster cuts of training camp.
Connecticut announced Monday it waived center Kyla Oldacre and guards Harmoni Turner and Minga Toure. That brings the Sun’s roster down from 18 to 15 with four days left of camp and final rosters due by Thursday, May 7. The WNBA hosts its league-wide season opener on Friday, including the Sun beginning the season at New York (7:30 p.m. on ION).
This year, all teams must carry 12 players on their roster. They also have the option to now carry an additional two developmental players. These players can participate in practice and be signed to a regular roster spot throughout the season when/if needed.
The Sun will ultimately have to cut one more player and designate two to its development player pool.
Connecticut is expected to welcome Nell Angloma to the team this week after drafting the young French forward with the No. 12 overall pick in April’s draft. Angloma has yet to join the team for training camp due to her overseas commitment. Fellow Sun French star Leila Lacan also remains overseas playing in the French League playoffs. She’s expected to join Connecticut later this month following the season opener.
The Sun signed Oldacre last Wednesday after she was waived from the Dallas Wings last Sunday, April 26. The former Texas star joined the Sun on Friday for practice and played in the final four minutes and 40 seconds of Sunday’s preseason loss to New York. She missed her lone shot attempt and recorded two turnovers.
Toure made her WNBA debut last season, playing in 18 games for the Sun in 2025. She averaged 2.0 points, 0.5 assists, 0.4 rebounds, and 0.4 steals in 8.2 minutes per game. The French native played seven minutes in the Sun’s preseason game at Toronto last Wednesday but did not play at all in Sunday’s game.
Turner played 14 minutes on Sunday and recorded seven points and two rebounds. The former Harvard star sat out last Wednesday’s game against the Tempo due to an illness. This was Turner’s second WNBA training camp after being drafted in the third round of last year’s draft and participating in the Las Vegas Aces’ 2025 training camp before being cut ahead of the season opener.
