HOUSTON — Houston Astros third baseman Carlos Correa will undergo season-ending surgery on a torn tendon in his left ankle, dealing a crippling blow to a ballclub already decimated by injuries.

Correa said on Wednesday he tore a tendon in his left ankle. Recovery time for the operation is six to eight months, Correa said.

Correa sustained the injury while taking a swing during pregame batting practice on Tuesday. Correa said he “felt a pop” and went down in pain.

Correa is the 15th Astros player to go on the injured list, a group that includes ace Hunter Brown, closer Josh Hader, shortstop Jeremy Peña and catcher Yainer Diaz.

The Astros are 15-22 and host the Los Angeles Dodgers on Wednesday afternoon.
