Rebecca Allen revealed she will join Sabrina Ionescu on the sideline for the Liberty’s season opener against the Connecticut Sun at Barclays Center on Friday.
“It’s not gonna be Friday. It won’t be Friday, but hopefully the next one,” Allen said in hopes to make her season debut Sunday against the Washington Mystics.
“So that’s what my fingers are crossed for.”
Allen said she’s feeling “pretty good” and “was in a lot more in practice” Wednesday as she’s following protocols to return to action. The veteran, who re-joined the Liberty this offseason after starting her WNBA career in New York, missed both preseason games due to “reconditioning.”
“Bec is getting closer,” head coach Chris DeMarco said.

Satou Sabally missed practice due to an illness, per DeMarco.
Like Allen, she too missed both preseason games due to “reconditioning.”
Sabally has yet to play real in-game action — WNBA or Unrivaled — while dealing with lingering symptoms from from a concussion sustained in Game 3 of the 2025 WNBA Finals as a member of the Phoenix Mercury.
Yet, DeMarco isn’t too worried about the Liberty’s newest star.
“We’re not concerned,” he said. “We’re just trying to set her up for success this season and everything right now is for Friday. So hopefully she’s better and she’s ready to go.”
STILL NO SPECIFIC SAB DESIGNATION
DeMarco declined on disclosing specifics on Ionescu, who is slated to miss the start of the season due to a left foot injury. The team never shared the exact ailment to Ionescu’s foot.
“Re-evaluating in 11-12 days. That’s all the information I have right now,” he said.
The head coach said Wednesday he isn’t looking for one specific player to step up in Ionescu’s absence.
“Same game plan, same way we want to attack, same way we want to defend,” he said.
