Fire crews fight apartment fire near Midtown Omaha early Thursday
Firefighters with the Omaha Fire Department were on the scene of an apartment fire early Thursday.
A call came out to the apartment building at 46th and Cuming streets, near the Midtown area, just after 1 a.m.
Fire officials tell First Alert 6 on the scene the fire started in the kitchen and was contained to one unit.
No injuries were reported by police dispatch. One person was displaced as a result of the fire, which is now under investigation.
Omaha CEO accused of securities fraud to appear in court Thursday
The CEO of BioSecurity Technology, who is accused of committing securities fraud worth millions of dollars, is due in court Thursday.
Daniel Lynn, 71, was booked into Douglas County Corrections on Tuesday morning to face 12 felony counts of securities fraud.

The filing reveals the Nebraska Department of Banking and Finance received complaints in 2023 of alleged fraud tied to Lynn’s sale of securities.
Records go in depth on the millions of dollars investors from Omaha and elsewhere gave to Lynn. Some investors were refunded, sometimes only partially, and some funds were transferred to Lynn’s personal bank account.
Nebraska governor to highlight economic bills on Thursday
Gov. Jim Pillen will be in Omaha on Thursday to sign two bills meant to grow apprenticeships and keep jobs in the state.
LB 847, introduced by Sen. Kathleen Kauth, directs the Department of Labor to track and expand apprenticeship opportunities, according to a release.
LB 1165, known as the Grow the Good Life Act and sponsored on the governor’s behalf by Sen. Brad von Gillern, provides incentives for businesses that have merged to stay and grow in Nebraska.
CLAAS, an ag equipment manufacturer, takes on apprentices of all ages through a cooperative program with Metropolitan Community College, the release states.
The event takes place at the CLAAS Agriculture plant near 132nd and Giles at 3 p.m.
Omaha Police Foundation to honor officers at annual luncheon Thursday
The Omaha Police Foundation will honor dozens of officers and staff on Thursday at an annual luncheon.
Honorees will receive awards, including the Police Ribbon of Excellence, Distinguished Service Medal and Medal of Valor. The 2025 Officer of the Year will be chosen from that group.
Last year, Omaha Police named four brave men as Officer of the Year award winners: Sgt. Ryan Carrera, Officer Aaron Dice, Officer Brian Diminco, and Officer John Dlouhy. They were recognized for their courageous work in the aftermath of last year’s devastating April tornadoes.
Kerrie Orozco, an officer who was shot and killed in 2015 in the line of duty while trying to serve an arrest warrant, was also honored last year.
Thursday’s event runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Scott Conference Center. First Alert 6’s Brian Mastre will be the emcee.
UNO to hold graduation events at Baxter Arena on Thursday, Friday
Some UNO students will reach a major milestone on Thursday night as the university holds its graduate commencement and doctoral hooding ceremony.
The event highlights day one of this year’s graduation events. The undergraduate commencement programs will happen on Friday at 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The ceremony is at Baxter Arena in the Aksarben area at 6 p.m. Thursday.
The UNMC Omaha commencement ceremony will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. — also at Baxter Arena.
Supernovas face Indy in playoffs, Huskers open Big Ten tournament
The Omaha Supernovas and Nebraska softball both take the court and field Thursday in postseason action.
The Supernovas will make their third-straight postseason appearance. Unlike previous years, the Supernovas enter this year’s playoffs as underdogs.
Led by interim head coach Thomas Robson, Omaha rallied to capture the 4-seed and face top-seed Indy in Thursday’s semifinals. Tipoff is at 6 p.m. in Frisco and the game will air on ION TV.
After bringing home the Big Ten regular season title, Husker softball is chasing more hardware.
Nebraska is the No. 1 seed for the conference tournament as they take on Michigan after a first-round bye. First pitch from College Park, Maryland, is set for 12:30 p.m.
