HERSHEY, Pa. — The Pittsburgh Penguins might get to see 2025 first-round pick Bill Zonnon in action sooner than expected. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins signed Zonnon to an Amateur Tryout Agreement Thursday, and Zonnon will be eligible to participate in the AHL playoffs.
The WBS Penguins lead their first-round playoff series against the Hershey Bears 2-1. If WBS wins Thursday, they will win the best-of-five series.
After selecting Ben Kindel with the 11th overall pick in the 2025 NHL Draft, Penguins general manager Kyle Dubas and vice president of player personnel Wes Clark selected the large, versatile Zonnon with their second pick of the first-round, 22nd pick overall. PHN scouting on Zonnon, both on video and in-person at last July’s development camp, showed a player who could be a power forward, either at center or on the wing.
On draft day, Zonnon was 6-foot-2, 190 pounds. Injuries denied Zonnon time at the Penguins training camp and a large part of the QMJHL season. However, in 35 games, the 19-year-old scored 14 goals with 32 assists for 46 points for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada.
Pittsburgh Hockey Now is covering Game 4 in Hershey on Thursday. We will have full coverage of WBS’s attempt to close out the series and prospect analysis. If Zonnon plays, we will have full details of that story, too.
