WASHINGTON (7News) — The Washington Mystics unveiled their 2026-2027 Rebel edition jerseys on Friday.

In collaboration with the WNBA and Nike, all 15 WNBA teams released jerseys that expressed their individual team identities.

The Mystics’ theme pays homage to D.C.’s historic U Street and the trailblazing women who have helped shape the city, the team announced.

The uniforms tell a story with an emphasis on the details. The laser fuchsia pays homage to the matriarchs who helped move communities forward, the team stated. In big bold letters read “District of Change,” a nod to the same signage at Ben’s Chili Bowl, a D.C. restaurant staple.

The fitting gives a nod to D.C.’s Black Broadway era (1920s-1950s) and the entrepreneurs and entertainers who sustained the neighborhood through the times of adversity.

D.C. has long been recognized as a catalyst for change. An economic centerpiece for Black Americans externally during the Civil Rights movement. During that time, U Street was filled with Black-owned businesses, including jazz clubs and the famous Ben’s Chili Bowl, which is still standing today.

“We are thrilled to work with Nike and the WNBA to bring this culturally relevant Nike Rebel Edition uniform for the 2026 season,” Dana Campbell, Mystics vice president of marketing, said in a statement. “We are excited to debut a new design that continues our Rebel Edition tradition of storytelling around Washington D.C., history, culture and community,” Campbell added.

The 30th season of the WNBA kicks off tonight. The Mystics will face the league’s newest franchise, the Toronto Tempo, in Canada.

The team will also be unveiling a temporary mural on the side of Ben’s Chili Bowl and hosting a watch party to kick off the season.
