Social Security confirms all 1,300 branches shut down in weeks for 24-hour closure

ALL Social Security branches will be closed for an entire day this month, leaving Americans with no alternative.

The branches are closing for Memorial Day on Monday, May 25, alongside many major banks and retailers.

Memorial Day falls on the final Monday of every May to remember and mourn soldiers who died in the line of duty.

Americans have already seen Social Security offices close for federal holidays this year, including New Year’s Day and Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday.

According to the website, the offices close for all 11 federal holidays every year.

This means the offices will be closed for upcoming holidays such as Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving and Christmas.

To avoid delays, Americans who need to should visit their local office before Memorial Day.

The Social Security website is expected to be operational on Memorial Day, however.

2026 Social Security Payment Schedule

Social Security payments are handed out on the second, third, and fourth Wednesday of each month, depending on a beneficiary’s date of birth. Benefits will be paid out in 2026 on the following dates:

January 14, 21, and 28
February 11, 18, and 25
March 11, 18, and 25
April 8, 15, and 22
May 13, 20, and 27
June 10, 17, and 24
July 8, 15, and 22
August 12, 19, and 26
September 9, 16, and 23
October 14, 21, and 28
November 10, 18, and 25
December 9, 16, and 23

Major banks incluidng Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Citibank, JPMorgan Chase and Goldman Sachs will be closed for Memorial Day.

ATMs and online banking will be working, but any transactions made could be frozen until the following day.

Costco is one of the biggest retailers to confirm its closure on May 25, but other chains such as Walmart, Target and The Home Depot will be open.

Services such as FedEx and UPS will freeze most of their services on Memorial Day, too.
