In collaboration with Adams Fiber, the rural village of Timewell, Illinois, has been named a Smart Rural Community (SRC) by NTCA–The Rural Broadband Association.

The SRC accolade was presented last month to Timewell’s village board, and Mayor Jim Patton, according to a Facebook post from Adams Fiber.

Adams Fiber said their total fiber infrastructure investment in Timewell amounted to $253,900.

“Timewell now enjoys improved connectivity for residents—opening doors to better educational resources, expanded telehealth access, and an enhanced quality of life,” the ISP posted.

Additionally, the ISP said the designation “highlights Timewell’s ongoing commitment to innovation and community progress.”

With the designation, Timewell joins communities like Bemidji, Minnesota.

Bemidji earned the designation thanks to Paul Bunyan Communications, which has provided high-speed broadband to local healthcare providers.

“The SRC Program empowers local providers by recognizing and supporting their efforts to deliver high-speed broadband,” the initiative’s website states.

Another community with the designation is Ya-Ta-Hey, New Mexico.

A brief summary on the initiative’s website explains why.

“Sacred Wind Communications began as a way to bring high-speed internet into a community that has historically been considered ‘too rural’ to support,” the organization’s website reads. “In 2020, Sacred Wind completed a project in partnership with the Navajo Housing Authority to bring fiber-optic cable to Navajo families.”
