Quintayvious Hutchins, a seventh-round draft pick of the New England Patriots, was arraigned and pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to charges of assault and battery on a family or household member, according to documents filed at Newton (Mass.) District Court.
The charges stem from an incident Tuesday night at Boston College, where Hutchins played college football before he was drafted in April.
According to an incident report filed by the Boston College Police Department, Hutchins was in a verbal disagreement with a woman in the hallway of a residence hall at the school when a resident advisor said she saw Hutchins push the woman and put his hands on the woman’s neck. The resident advisor described Hutchins placing his hands on the woman as “a firm grab to the neck, not strangulation.” The woman later told one of the responding officers, “Nothing happened. I’m OK.”
“We are aware of the report involving Quintayvious Hutchins,” the Patriots said in a statement. “We take these matters very seriously and are in the process of gathering additional information. We will not have further comment at this time.”
Hutchins, 23, went to high school in Alabama, then spent five years as a linebacker at Boston College. He was selected by the Patriots with the 247th pick.
