After making her WNBA debut during the first game of the season, the Dallas Wings were without Azzi Fudd for their second regular season game as she was dealing with a knee injury. With the Minnesota Lynx and No. 2 overall pick Olivia Miles in town, Azzi Fudd was cleared to make her return from injury and re-join the Wings’ lineup in what should be a good game between top rookies.
Fudd was the No. 1 overall pick in the WNBA Draft after a stellar career at UConn that including winning a national championship with current Wings teammate Paige Bueckers. During Fudd’s WNBA debut, a win agains the Indiana Fever, she finished with three points, one rebound and one steal while shooting 1-of-2 from the field in 18 minutes.
The former UConn star is coming off the Wings’ bench to start her career as the team has Bueckers, Arike Ogunbowale and Odyssey Sims ahead of her.
Fudd did take part in the Wings’ preseason games, and she had a strong showing in a win against the Las Vegas Aces. She finished with 12 points on 4-of-10 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 shooting from the free-throw line in 21 minutes.
While some Wings fans were understandably concerned about Fudd coming off the bench to begin the season, the team is just trying to ease her in to the WNBA along with having better options at the moment for the starting lineup.
The Wings will be looking to get back in the win column against the Lynx after dropping their home opener to the Atlanta Dream.
