COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Graduating seniors at Hilliard Darby High School got an unexpected treat thanks in part to a scheduling conflict with Bruno Mars of all people.
Since Mars’ “Romantic Tour” was announced, particularly his May 20 performance in Columbus, the students have lobbied for Mars to change the date because they were scheduled to graduate on the same day, and they were hoping he could make a surprise visit.
Senior Class President Alex Eldridge led the effort and created a TikTok account that students used to post daily videos in an attempt to recruit Mars to make an appearance at their graduation.
The school moved its graduation up a day and the ceremony took place Tuesday night at the Schottenstien Center. Mars couldn’t attend, but as a sweet consolation, he sent an ice cream truck to the Schott, where students and their families were able to enjoy free sundaes afterward.
Mars’ show is set to begin at 7 p.m. Wednesday with opening acts DJ Pee Wee and Leon Thomas.
