OREGON, Wis. (WMTV) – People in Oregon are raising concerns over the possible redevelopment of Foxboro Golf Course after a community meeting held Tuesday night at the Oregon Public Library.
The neighborhood meeting was led by developer and golf course owner Glenn Hofer and served as a follow-up to a previous meeting held in January.
Hofer asked WMTV 15 News to stop filming before the meeting began.
In a letter sent to residents, Hofer said the meeting “is the first step of many to allow any future phase of the Autumn Ridge neighborhood.”
Many residents claimed they did not receive this letter notifying them of the meeting time and location.
“Majority of people in there didn’t get a letter to show up for this meeting,” said Oregon resident Tony Smith.
During the meeting, Hofer presented two conceptual plan options for the development of Autumn Ridge neighborhood, which were adjusted from concepts shared in the January meeting. Option A proposed a 10-hole golf course, while option B eliminated the course entirely.
Tony Wood, who spoke with WMTV 15 News back in January, said Hofer previously told residents that the course would be scaled back to 12 holes, and that no one would lose their existing frontage on the course.
“It’s clear to anyone interested, or anyone on the golf course, that this has always been a ploy to take equity out of my pocket, equity out of every other neighbor who’s on the golf course, and put it in his pocket,” Wood said.
The meeting included a presentation of Hofer’s plans followed by a Q&A, where residents submitted written questions before being called to speak.
“Our planning committee, our village board, have a very important decision to make,” said Brian McReavy, who has lived on the course for 26 years. “They need to look at the long-term value of this community resource and weigh it against the short-term desires of an out-of-community developer.”
Residents said they will continue to voice their concerns as discussions over the future of Foxboro Golf Course move forward.
“People, as you can see, are going to continue to show up,” Wood said. “We’re not going to let him get away with it.”
No formal development application has been submitted to the Village of Oregon at this time, and any future proposal would still need approval from village officials.
