GENEVA — A Waterloo man is accused of breaking into a city residence and assaulting a female, city police said Tuesday.
Aleem J. Whitfield, 36, was charged with first-degree burglary.
Police said that on May 24, Whitfield forcibly entered a home and physically assaulted a female, who was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester with serious injuries and later released. They said Whitfield, a convicted felon, fled the scene prior to their arrival and that he turned himself in on Tuesday.
Whitfield was taken to the Ontario County jail for arraignment, police said.
Lt. John VanSavage said an assault charge is likely to be levied in the case, possibly through grand jury.
Anyone with information regarding the incident is urged to contact police at 315-828-6771 or Det. Jordan Dobies at 315-828-6780.
