Va. (WSET) — Centra Health earned mixed marks in the latest hospital safety report card from The Leapfrog Group, with two of its hospitals receiving top grades while another was rated below average.

According to Leapfrog’s report, Centra Bedford Memorial Hospital and Centra Southside Community Hospital in Farmville each received an A grade, something they are proud of. Centra Lynchburg General Hospital received a C grade.

Leapfrog said Centra Lynchburg General ranked worse than average in multiple surgery-related metrics, including dangerous objects being left in patients’ bodies, death from treatable serious complications, kidney injury after surgery, accidental cuts and tears, and sepsis infection after surgery.

Centra said in a statement that the grade “reminds us there is still work to do. Scores highlight areas of opportunity that we are actively working to improve, reinforcing the need to accelerate our efforts around our strategic imperative of delivering high reliability, safe care.”
