CARLSBAD, Calif. –

Oklahoma State’s men’s golf team opened play at the NCAA Championship on Friday with a 295 to stand in a tie for 20th place at Omni La Costa Resort and Spa.

The Cowboys’ 7-over total knotted them with Arkansas State at the par-72, 7,528-yard layout. UCLA posted an opening 8-under 280 to grab the team lead. 

A trio of players, San Diego’s Ian Maspat, Arizona State’s Connor Williams and Alabama’s William Jennings all shared the individual lead at 6-under 66.

Junior Eric Lee led the OSU starting five with an even-par 72. Lee bogeyed the opening hole before registering 12 consecutive pars. He would bogey the 14th before carding back-to-back birdies at the 15th and 16th to move back to level par for the day and come in tied for 35th place.

Junior Preston Stout finished the day tied for 57th place after posting a 1-over 73, while classmate Gaven Lane carded a 74 to come in tied for 74th place. 

Junior Ethan Fang’s 76 tied him for 100th place, while sophomore Filip Fahlberg-Johnsson’s 78 tied him for 130th place.

The Cowboys will once again be paired with Virginia and Arkansas tomorrow and will begin play at 6:52 a.m. (PST).
