WASHINGTON (TNND) — The two men who were shot at the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania are suing the United States for “life altering physical and emotional injuries.”
David Dutch and James Copenhaver were shot at the Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania on July 13, 2024.
This was the same rally that Trump was shot at. The attorneys for both men state that their injuries were a result of negligence by the Secret Service.
“The assassination attempt on President Trump’s life was entirely preventable and was caused, in whole or in part, by the failures of the USSS in the days leading up to the event as well as on the day of the assassination attempt,” the complaints read.
The families are seeking in excess of $150,000, according to CBS News.
The Secret Service has not weighed in on the lawsuit.
The FBI confirmed last year that Thomas Matthew Crooks, the individual who attempted to assassinate Trump, acted alone.
Crooks opened fire on the rally and killed firefighter Corey Comperatore, shot Trump in the ear and injured Dutch and Copenhaver.
