BREAKING NEWS. A MASSIVE CLOSURE ON THE PENNSYLVANIA TURNPIKE. TURNPIKE OFFICIALS SAY THIS IS BECAUSE OF A CAR FIRE INSIDE THE ALLEGHENY TUNNEL IN SOMERSET COUNTY, ON THE WESTERN SIDE OF THE TUNNEL. PENNDOT CAMERAS CAPTURING DOZENS OF PEOPLE WALKING OUTSIDE OF THE TUNNEL’S ENTRANCE, WHILE A LARGE FIRE RESPONSE CAN BE SEEN ON THE EASTERN END OF THE OVER MILE LONG TUNNEL. NOW, EMERGENCY DISPATCHERS TELL US ONE PERSON WAS FLOWN TO THE HOSPITAL FROM THE SCENE. NEARLY 90 MILES OF THE TURNPIKE REMAINED CLOSED IN BOTH DIRECTIONS. A fire inside the Allegheny Tunnel caused a closure of the Pennsylvania Turnpike between Breezewood (Exit 161) and New Stanton (Exit 75) on Thursday night.Traffic cameras showed several emergency vehicles at the eastbound and westbound entrances to the tunnel during the closure.Emergency dispatchers said one person was flown to a Pittsburgh hospital.
