Although NBA free agent LeBron James may keep things cordial with the Spurs, it seems like he has a lot to say about the Alamo City itself — and none of it comes off as postcard material.
During a Tuesday “Mind the Game” podcast episode alongside Steve Nash, James roasted San Antonio and its iconic River Walk while explaining why he believes the city’s “ain’t doing (expletive)” atmosphere supposedly gave the Knicks an early series advantage.
He began his comments around 27 minutes into the video, arguing that opening the series in San Antonio helped keep the Knicks grounded. In so many words, he suggested that “starting off on the road” was preferable to opening at Madison Square Garden, where the Knicks’ fervent fan base could’ve created a particularly intense atmosphere.
“Knicks fans right now, are so (expletive) insane and crazy right now for a finals game,” James said. “I can only imagine if Game 1 started at Madison Square Garden,” he added. “People asking for tickets, people wanting to be in there, the fans, all that… City’s on fire.”
Then, he dug into San Antonio: “I think just them having a level of being in San Antonio. I mean, San Antonio, you know, we focus on basketball. You ain’t doing (expletive) in San Antonio. Nothing at all. Nothing. And I mean nothing.”
Nash piled on, asking “you’re not getting on the River Walk?” before James replied: “Hell no. On the River Walk, (expletive) around and fall in the water.”
Now, with both teams feeling the heat of a tightening Finals series, they’ll have to keep their focus locked in ahead of Wednesday night’s Game 4 — no matter which side of the River Walk they’re on.
