“This will be used for employees to take breaks and store belongings,” said Peter Rothschild, president of the Bull’s Bridge Golf Club, in a July 3 application to New Milford’s Zoning Commission. “We are proposing to raze the larger, existing structure and erect a one-story 512-square-foot caddy shack with a half bath and a mechanical room within the existing building footprint.”
The 22-year-old club, which straddles the rolling landscape between northern-most New Fairfield and Kent, takes its name from nearby Bull’s Bridge, which is one of the few intact covered bridges left in Connecticut and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The new caddy shack is subject to New Milford review, even though the golf club’s mailing address is Bull’s Bridge Road in Kent, because the clubhouse and shack are in New Milford.
“This application proposes the construction of a caddy shack as an accessory structure in conjunction with the previously approved expansion … of the clubhouse to increase on-site amenities and included the construction of a new clubhouse facility for players, complete with showers and bathrooms,” Rothschild’s application reads.
That $4.5 million clubhouse expansion, approved by New Milford in 2023, included kitchen and dining room additions and new locker rooms.
Now it’s the caddies’ turn.
“Interior amenities will include a sink, refrigerator, and a half bathroom,” the application reads for the $65,000 project. “A covered entry is also proposed.”
Bull’s Bridge is the second well-regarded private golf club to make headlines in recent months.
