Another important recruiting weekend for Michigan is shaping up for what could be its biggest yet.
The Wolverines will have arguably the biggest priority on the defensive side of the ball on campus, along with a four-star edge rusher trending to Michigan. Maize n Brew breaks down who’s coming in to Ann Arbor and where Michigan stands ahead of these next couple of days.
He Said It: “Michigan definitely has a shot, That’s the reason why we’re coming on this visit. Any school that he took a visit to has a great shot at landing him, definitely, most truly. When we put Michigan in there, it was for a reason, you know what I’m saying? Because they stood out for everything that Josh looks for as far as the school, so therefore, they definitely have more than a shot.” – Father Rennard Dobson to The Wolverine.
The Skinny: The sentiment Michigan fans have about elite in-state wide receiver Dakota Guerrant should also be given to Dobson as well when pertaining to projected defensive recruits. A trio of SEC schools are vying for Dobson in Texas A&M, Auburn, and South Carolina. Before his official visit to U-M, he was at Texas A&M and Auburn; he will head to Columbia next weekend. The goal for these next few days is to swing momentum away from the Aggies, who left a big impression on Dobson. This weekend will also be his first time in Ann Arbor, but the communication with the staff has been consistent throughout the offseason.
He Said It: “They put their best foot forward to recruit me, even though they were late in the game. They’ve shown me love and kept it real with me. They run multiple defenses, so there are multiple chances to get on the field. Multiple chances to make a play. They said my ceiling is high because I just started and that they can put a few pounds on me, so I’m excited to see in a few years wherever I go to.” – Emedobi to Maize n Brew at the Under Armour NEXT All-American Camp in Chicago.
The Skinny: Major developments occurred earlier in the week, as Emedobi moved up his official visit after originally have it scheduled for Victor’s Weekend. Indiana was slotted in for this weekend, but got penciled out in favor of the Wolverines. That leaves next weekend open, as it’s to be determined if he decides to use that opportunity to check out another school or shut his recruitment down.
Emedobi was expected to announce a commitment a week following Victor’s Weekend, so does this bode well for Michigan? Heading into this weekend, U-M is soaring as a favorable contender for the pass rusher, who’s coming off extended trips to Minnesota and Penn State. Defensive ends coach Lewis Powell and assistant defensive line coach David Denham, who saw him during the spring contact period, have led the way in relationship building since offering in May.
