Veteran forward OG Anunoby played hero in the New York Knicks’ historic come-from-behind victory over the San Antonio Spurs in Game 4 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday to take a commanding 3-1 series lead.
It was a continuation of what has been a remarkable Finals showing so far for the 28-year-old former Indiana University star, who has been going great guns with a scoring norm of 23.8 points while shooting 58.0 percent from the field and 56.6 percent from three. This is apart from the tons of hustle OG shows on both ends.

Game 4 was a testament to the kind of impact Anunoby has been having for the Knicks in the ongoing championship series. He scored the winning basket with a tip-in off a Jalen Brunson missed three-point attempt with 1.2 seconds to go. Prior to that, OG forced the game-changing play on defense by blocking De’Aaron Fox’s layup that would have given San Antonio more breathing room.
Anunoby’s twin heads-up plays completed New York’s 107-106 victory, where they came from 29 points down at one stretch to post what is the greatest comeback in NBA Finals history.
OG for MVP
One who got to see Anunoby’s heroics live in Game 4 was Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, who was part of the “Inside The NBA” panel, which broadcast from Madison Square Garden.

The four-time NBA champion has been impressed with how Anunoby has consistently and effectively handled his business in the series. On his podcast, Draymond shared how he has grown convinced that the Knicks forward is in play for the Finals MVP award if New York goes on to win the title.
“I agree [that OG has a great shot at the Finals MVP award]. I think he’s been the most consistent. I think, you know, he’s made pivotal plays. He had the block and the bucket to close out the game in Game 4,” Green shared.
“OG has just been constant. And it hasn’t been, like, he’s averaging 14 points, 16 points. He’s averaging 24 points in the series. He’s shooting [58 %] from the field, 56 from three. He’s playing defense, guarding Wemby at times in the series. I think if he has a decent Game 5 and they win Game 5, I think he is the Finals MVP,” the former NBA Defensive Player of the Year added.

Anunoby had a championship ring as a member of the Toronto Raptors in 2019. He, however, was not able to suit up for the team in the Finals after undergoing an emergency appendectomy that forced him to miss the entire postseason that year.
Staying ready
Anunoby and the Knicks will try to close things out in Game 5 on the road on Saturday and end what has been a 53-year title drought for the franchise. They, however, are aware that their job is far from done, and they have to come out and get the championship as the Spurs will not give it to them on a free pass, especially at home.

For Anunoby, nothing really changes, vowing to be ready as always.
“[I’m] always trying to get better … show more and do more things, and being ready for it,” he said of his mindset for Game 5 during media day on Friday.
Whether he wins Finals MVP or not, Anunoby seemingly couldn’t care less. What is important for OG is to do what is asked of him and help his team win, which bodes well for the Knicks as they go for the title-clincher.
