After losing its lone Class of 2027 quarterback recruit, Pitt did not have to wait long to land a new signal caller for this cycle.
Kevin Verpaele decommitted from Pitt on June 10, instead choosing South Florida, but three days later, fellow three-star quarterback James Perrone announced a pledge to the Panthers.
Pitt also picked up a 23rd commitment for 2027 over the weekend in Georgia cornerback Kayden Battle, a three-star prospect.
Perrone, a Miami native, decommitted from East Carolina and previously was verbally committed to USF, as well.

Perrone attends Miami Central High School and was initially offered by the Panthers in the fall of 2025. A 6-foot-1, 180-pound prospect, he is one of eight Florida recruits Pitt has in its 2027 class.
In addition to Pitt, USF and East Carolina, Perrone had offers from West Virginia, Wake Forest, Maryland and others.
Battle is 5-11 and 170 pounds, hailing from Powder Springs, Ga.
Michigan State, Stanford, Auburn, Duke, Florida State, Kentucky and North Carolina were among the Power Four offers he attracted.
I am 100% Committed to @Pitt_FB!
I’m extremely grateful to everyone that helped to get me here, and above all to God. #H2P????????@CoachDuzzPittFB @coachcsanders @ARCHIECOLLINS_ pic.twitter.com/6n75hTnzR4
