Manchester United’s next breakout star has already been decided by two of their brightest talents

Kobbie Mainoo and Leny Yoro have agreed that Patrick Dorgu will reach new heights at Manchester United next season. The 21-year-old enjoyed an impressive season at Old Trafford with four goals and four assists to his name while showcasing his remarkable versatility on the pitch.
The Denmark international played at left wing-back, left-midfield, left-wing and right-wing under Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick and ended the campaign with a goal and assist in United’s 3-0 win at Brighton.
Poised to play an important role in United’s future under Carrick, Dorgu received the ultimate compliment from his two team-mates when they were asked who will be the one to watch from their squad next season.

Mainoo quickly answered: “I’d say Patrick [Dorgu]. I’d say he can go up another level again. In training, some of the stuff he’s doing, you can see him really pushing.”
Yoro cited Dorgu’s ability to adapt as he answered: “Sometimes he plays winger as well, I think in this position, [he’s] really dangerous for the opponent. He gives a lot to the team as well.”
Dorgu’s second start at left wing this season came in his stunning showing against Manchester City, where he scored in the 2-0 win. His capability to have an impact in multiple positions left Carrick admitting after the victory that he didn’t want to commit Dorgu to just one role.

Speaking in January, the United boss said: “I think he was immense last week, his work rate and the way he played the position, but the threat, constant threat. And the goal was the obvious one but I think his general play was something we were really pleased about.
“I wouldn’t want to pin him down [to a position], to be honest. I think he can do both, but certainly attacking-wise in that threat, he was pretty impressive last week.”

Dorgu opened up about the permanent appointment of Carrick after defeating Brighton and said the squad are delighted to be able to continue with the former United midfielder at the helm. The Dane said: “Yeah, we’re all really happy.
“You can see the impact from him since the first day he came, so it’s good to have him and hopefully we’ll do even better next season. Obviously, the formation has changed, and the start place is a bit different to the old coach.
“So I think we’re all just trying to improve and game by game we’re getting even better. So yeah, it’s good to have him and his ideas and everything, so we’re all excited for the next season.”
