The restructuring will allow clinics to better serve obstetrical and gynecological patients, a representative for St. Luke’s said.

MERIDIAN, Idaho — St. Luke’s is reconfiguring parts of its obstetrics, gynecology and midwifery services to meet the growing need for obstetrical and gynecological care in the Treasure Valley, officials said.

St. Luke’s obstetrics and gynecology clinic in Meridian is expanding its practice by moving two Boise-based physicians to the clinic, becoming what a representative described as “one unified team.”

St. Luke’s said this will not only allow patients to have better access to care, but will “enhance provider coverage,” and address regional patient needs in Idaho.

The changes come as Idaho experiences a shortage in physicians specializing in the practice — data from a 2025 study shows that 35% of practicing OB-GYN physicians left the state following the 2022 Dobbs decision. Idaho also does not have an educational program specializing in obstetrics within the state according to that study, meaning new doctors must be recruited from outside of the state’s limits.

Two more OB-GYN physicians in are joining St. Luke’s Meridian location this fall, bringing the total to eight and expanding the clinic’s capacity to care for patients and maintain a care team.

A representative for St. Luke’s noted while some physicians are transitioning to Meridian, the Boise clinic will continue to see patients to provide obstetrical and gynecological care.

Midwifery delivery services have been consolidated to St. Luke’s Nampa location, and around the clock support for obstetric patients will be provided by a team of six midwives. Meridian’s midwives will continue providing patient care in the clinic setting.

No staff is being eliminated changes shift work locations, according to that representative.

Patients impacted received a letter communicating the changes and St. Luke’s officials say they are working with patients to “ensure a smooth transition.”
