SCARBOROUGH, Maine — People in Scarborough are being asked to bring in any bird feeders after a bear was seen roaming through town.
A bear, which is believed to be young, was spotted behind the Willowdale Golf Club in Scarborough on Wednesday morning, according to Jennifer Cross, the Scarborough animal control officer. The cub was eating out of people’s bird feeders.
It was also seen on Foxcroft Drive at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Cross said.
The bear is believed to weigh about 100 pounds and to be in good health. The bear seems to have a fear of humans, according to Cross.
People are advised to bring in their bird feeders so the bear is encouraged to hunt on its own. “No fast food!” Cross joked.
If a bear is on your porch, make noise to make it go away. If you see the bear, you can call Cross at 207-730-4318.
