SAN ANTONIO – Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones is calling for the cancellation of a planned Kanye West concert at the Alamodome, saying the city should not host the artist in a city-funded venue.

In a post on X, Jones wrote, “I support canceling the @ye (Kanye West) concert.”

“Military City USA should not host someone with a record of hate speech and antisemitic comments in a city-funded facility like our Alamodome—not ever, and certainly not on July 4th, our Nation’s 250th birthday,” Jones wrote.

Jones added, “Standing up to antisemitism is exactly what it takes to achieve a more perfect Union.”

This comes after multiple high-profile incidents surrounding the embattled, award-winning artist, which include several recent instances involving hate speech.

Leaders in other localities have also raised concerns surrounding planned concerts from the artist behind albums such as ‘Graduation,’ ‘Yeezus,’ and ‘The Life of Pablo.’

Most recently, a bipartisan collection of lawmakers in Florida urged organizers to halt a planned concert in Tampa amid the artist’s controversial statements.

Back in January, Ye took to the Wall Street Journal to issue a public apology for previous antisemitic statements.

I lost touch with reality,” Ye wrote. “Things got worse the longer I ignored the problem. I said and did things I deeply regret. Some of the people I love the most, I treated the worst.

Ye begins his apology by attributing his antisemitism to suffering from an episode of bipolar disorder. Ye said beginning in early 2025 that he experienced a “four-month-long manic episode of psychotic, paranoid and impulsive behavior that destroyed my life.”
