Amanda Anisimova’s mixed doubles partner Holger Rune made a claim about her Wimbledon run after his second-round win at the Cincinnati Open. The two will team up in the revamped mixed doubles event at the US Open.
Holger Rune Said He Thought Amanda Anisimova Would Win Wimbledon
Anisimova produced a remarkable run at Wimbledon this year by reaching her maiden Grand Slam final after wins over Yulia Putintseva, Renata Zarazúa, Dalma Gálfi, Linda Nosková, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and World No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka. Here, she suffered a disastrous 0-6, 0-6 defeat to Iga Świątek.
Anisimova’s doubles partner at the upcoming edition of the US Open recently booked his spot in the third round of the Cincinnati Open after a 7-5, 7-6(5) win over Roman Safiullin. After the match, the Dane spoke to Tennis Channel and lauded the American on her performance. Rune said that he thought Anisimova would win Wimbledon earlier during the grass season.
“I was watching her at Wimbledon and it’s actually funny, people can think maybe I’m lying but I’m not, I promise. I said in Queen’s I thought she was going to win Wimbledon and then she made the final. But, she has really improved, been through a lot also. So, it’s going to be amazing to share the court with her,” Rune said.

Amanda Anisimova Will Face Leolia Jeanjean in Cincinnati Open 2R
Amanda Anisimova received a bye to the second round of the Cincinnati Open by virtue of her seeding. Here, she will lock horns with French qualifier Leolia Jeanjean, who beat Yuliia Starodubtseva 7-5, 1-6, 6-4 in the first round.
Anisimova and Jeanjean have not had any prior encounters so their head-to-head is currently locked at 0-0. Whoever out of the two comes out on top will take on either 28th seed Anna Kalinskaya or Peyton Stearns in the third round of the Cincinnati Open.
