AMARILLO, Texas (KFDA) – The Amarillo Sod Poodles fell to the Midland RockHounds 14-8 on Sunday night at Hodgetown, ending their bid for the first six-game home sweep in club history.
The Sod Poodles finished the first half of the 2026 regular season with a 36-32 record and won the series against Midland 5-1. The RockHounds finished the first half at 32-36.
Early Offense
Alberto Barriga hit a leadoff home run to left-center field in the bottom of the second inning to give Amarillo a 1-0 lead. The Sod Poodles scored four runs in the inning as Junior Franco and Anderdson Rojas each drove in runs with singles. Rojas later scored on a wild pitch.
Midland Rallies
Midland tied the game in the top of the third inning on two-run home runs from Leo De Vries and Devin Taylor. Euribiel Angeles added a solo home run with two outs to cap a five-run inning and give the RockHounds a 5-4 lead.
Amarillo loaded the bases in the bottom of the third on a hit, an error and a walk but failed to score.
RockHounds Pull Away
Clark Elliott hit a home run to right-center field in the fourth inning. Midland scored five runs in the frame on back-to-back run-scoring doubles and a home run from Bobby Boser to take a 10-4 lead.
The RockHounds added two runs in the fifth inning.
Luis Grand Slam
Jansel Luis hit a grand slam off the batter’s eye in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut the deficit to 12-8. Taylor hit his second home run of the night in the top of the seventh to extend the Midland lead to 13-8.
Jesus Valdez hit an RBI double down the left field line in the bottom of the ninth, but the Sod Poodles fell 14-9.
Junior Sanchez started for Amarillo and retired two of the first three batters on strikes in the first inning. He faced the minimum in the second inning.
