The wait goes on.
Carolina Hurricanes franchise icon and two-time Stanley Cup champion, Rod Brind’Amour wasn’t selected for induction into the Hockey Hall of Fame. Brind’Amour has been eligible since 2013.
Former Hurricane Eric Staal, who like Brind’Amour was a member of the franchise’s 2006 Stanley Cup championship team, wasn’t selected for induction in his first year of eligibility.
The Hockey Hall of Fame announced its 2026 class of inductees Monday as selected by an 18-member selection committee. The class included players Patrice Bergeron, Cindy Curley, Carey Price, Pekka Rinne and Keith Tkachuk and Brian Burke was selected in the builder category.
Brind’Amour played 1,484 games over a 20-year career with the Hurricanes, Philadelphia Flyers and St. Louis Blues. He was first eligible for the Hall in 2013, three years after his playing career ended.
Brind’Amour, a center, twice won the Selke Trophy, given to the league’s top defensive forward. He scored 452 goals and had 732 assists in his career. Brind’Amour also played in 159 postseason games, scoring 51 goals, and made three trips to the Stanley Cup Final, including in 2002 and 2006 with Carolina. The 2006 team won the Cup.
He was traded from Philadelphia to Carolina during the 1999-2000 season and has become a franchise legend.
Brind’Amour has taken the franchise to the playoffs in each of his first eight seasons as head coach, including four appearances in the Eastern Conference Final. The Hurricanes went 16-3 this postseason, including sweeps of Ottawa and Philadelphia in the first two rounds, en route to the Cup. Carolina beat Vegas 4-2 in the best-of-seven final.
Brind’Amour’s repeated snubs have become a sore spot among Canes fans.
Staal, a center, played in 1,365 games in his 20-year career, the first 12 with Carolina. He scored 455 goals and had 608 assists. He played 104 postseason games. Staal’s brother, Jordan, is the captain of the Hurricanes.
