Happy Saturday, and welcome to the 8/9 edition of the Philly Hockey Now Daily.

I’ll be honest, I am at the point in summer now where I truly miss hockey. It cannot come back soon enough. We’re just over a month away from the Rookie Series between the Flyers and Rangers in Allentown (Sept. 11, 12), which puts us just about six weeks away from the beginning of preseason (Sept. 21), and two months out from the Flyers’ first game.

Is it too early to start the countdown?

In today’s edition of the PhHN Daily, we touch on our latest story here at Philly Hockey Now, as well as give updates on two big-name trade rumors and more! Get it all on the Daily!

Philadelphia Flyers

Philly Hockey Now: The Flyers’ defense will play a critical role in whatever success or failures Philly has next season. Is their defense enough for the team to have success, or do they need big improvement before they can truly compete?

National Hockey Now, NHL Rumors & News

RG: It may be time to put the brakes on the Mason McTavish to the Flyers rumors. RG media has reported the rumored cost of acquiring the young center, and it may be too steep for Philly.

I like McTavish a lot—that’s a big ask. Unless a winger and draft capital could get the job done, I’d say I am now out on McTavish.

ESPN: Another trade rumor seems to be dying quickly. For a long while, it seemed as if Brady Tkachuk could be on the trade market, wanting out of Ottawa. Well, his dad, Keith, has gone on the record and shut all of that down.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Across the Keystone State, there is yet another rebuilding hockey club. The Penguins are in the middle of a “stealth” rebuild, but Dan Kingerski lists three things to speed it up.

Vegas Hockey Now: The Golden Knights have not been around for long, but they’ve been in the spotlight since joining the league. They’ve had some flashy players, but Hannah Kirkell lists five under appreciated players since their Inaugural Season.
