How should the Ottawa Senators spend their new treasure trove of draft picks? They and a couple of other teams just leveled up in the NHL trade rumors, while the premier Ottawa beat writer has connected Ottawa to the Penguins in trade chatter. Elsewhere in the Daily, a team could be interested in Elias Pettersson, Sportsnet released the offseason Trade Board 8.0, the new Hockey Hall of Fame class was announced and a long-time wrong has been corrected.

And we looked at the five worst Penguins drafts and picks. One Penguins’ draft class doesn’t get enough credit for being the worst possible class on record.

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: We did the best on Sunday, so the worst on Monday. The ranking drove a couple of very linear people bonkers because we counted the worst draft class as a tie, so–there is no No. 3. Gasp! Since the last Stanley Cup, here are the five worst classes and Penguins draft picks.

The camp is fun for fans, but I’ll confess that it’s one of the absolute worst things to cover. We spend four days at the complex watching them skate, do drills, skate with ropes tied to their waste, and yet we still rush to talk to the same three people every day.

NHL Trade Talk, News, & National Hockey Now

Ottawa Sun: Bruce Garrioch reports the Ottawa Senators are going big-game hunting with their cache of draft picks. To be clear, he did not report that Ottawa and the Penguins are in trade talks, but he believes they will revisit interest in Bryan Rust and Rickard Rakell, among others.

I know there is a report that Ottawa is chasing Jason Robertson, but I discount the report. Robertson is a California born guy about to sign a whopper of a new contract. Those two factors probably preclude Ottawa from being on his short list of destinations. Dallas can trade him anywhere, but no team will acquire him without knowing they can sign him long term.

Even if you’re making $12 million, having limited career span means high or low taxes are a big deal.

Sportsnet: Kypper’s 8.0 trade board, it’s the eighth old man named Henry. Second verse, (not) the same as the first. Jokes most of you wont’ get aside, the board has a few new names and a few climbing the charts.

Brief Penguins president of hockey operations Brian Burke is part of the new Hockey Hall of Fame class. The Hall also righted a wrong and will induct Keith Tkachuk among a couple of other players.

Boston Hockey Now: There’s a swell of good tidings and memories in Boston. One of those players being inducted was a slamdunk, sure thing, no-brainer, Patrice Bergeron.

They should put Bergeron’s case right next to the Selke Trophy.

NHL.com: A very good signing for the Edmonton Oilers–they were able to get Connor Murphy to re-up for five more years.

He was immediately called into Mike Babcock’s makeshift office in the corner booth at the A&W down Rt. 2 and asked which value meal he would order on a game day. Then sent home without lunch.

Donnie & Dahli: Oh boy. This one could stir the NHL trade rumors in a bigly way. The St. Louis Blues are kicking around on Elias Pettersson?

Florida Hockey Now: Players are getting a lot of control. According to Ottawa GM Steve Staios, Brady Tkachuk would only go to one team. Yep, it was Florida Panthers or bust.

And damn, Erik Karlsson. That’s a shiny new toy.
