ASHLAND, Ore. – As more deer appear in Ashland, the city asks the public and visitors to treat them like a typical wild animal, keeping your distance and not feeding them.
Injuries are occurring in Ashland as doe are protecting their fawn, with the city expecting locals to report their encounters. Ashland provides a wildlife reporting website, where locals can warn about aggressive deer and more animals.
Ashland asks locals to report their encounters with aggressive or destructive deer, as Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife along with city officials look to study patterns and specific areas where issues occur.
“Treating deer like pets and luring them with food causes them to congregate in unnatural ways, which has lead to unhealthy deer in town,” City of Ashland, Oregon said. “If we aren’t successful in changing some people’s habits, lethal removal may need to be considered.”
