Vijayawada:The AP government striving for establishment of the Quantum Valley in Amaravati issued orders on Sunday for formation of a government company styled as Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre.

State IT secretary Bhaskar Katamneni issued GO-Ms-25 for this purpose. It said the state has embarked on an ambitious plan to develop a Quantum Valley in the capital region. The idea, it said, “is to create a technology hub that brings together academic institutions, startups, global technology providers and research labs focused on quantum computing and related technologies.”

A detailed project report outlining the scope, objectives and requirements for the project has been submitted to the capital region development authority, which has reviewed the proposal and allocated 50 acres of land for the initiative.

The emergence of quantum computing as a transformative technology with implications for cybersecurity, pharmaceuticals, climate modelling, materials science and artificial intelligence has led to a race among nations and corporations to build capabilities in this domain, it was stated.

“Recognising this, the state government has launched the Amaravati Quantum Valley initiative, aimed at positioning Amaravati as a nucleus for quantum innovation. As part of this, the government successfully organised the Amaravati Quantum Valley workshop in Vijayawada on June 30. The workshop brought together leaders from academia, industry, government and startups to deliberate on strategic opportunities and requirements for building a robust quantum ecosystem in the state.”

“The key outcome of this workshop was the adoption of the “Amaravati Quantum Valley Declaration”, which outlines the collaborative roadmap and commitments needed to make Amaravati a global quantum destination. It is imperative to establish a company, the “Amaravati Quantum Computing Centre (AQCC)”, under the Companies Act, 2013 as a wholly owned government company,” the GO stated.

The initial board of directors for the company shall include officers from the several departments. “The secretary to ITE&C department would chair the board. The other members are the special secretary to ITE&C, secretary to finance, secretary to industries and commerce, secretary to agriculture & cooperation, secretaries to energy, forest, science & technology, secretary to health, skill development and secretary to real-time governance.
