Two children riding a motorized scooter in Haverhill, Massachusetts, were rushed to the hospital on Thursday after a collision with a bus, according to Haverhill police.The crash occurred just before 4 p.m. at the intersection of Portland Street and 5th Avenue.The children sustained serious injuries and were transported to an area hospital. Police did not provide their ages.Witnesses said the girls were believed to be around 14 or 15 years old.”It looked like they tried to hit their brakes to try to stop and like speed wobble, and they smashed right into it,” said Nic Mello, who jumped in to help after the crash. “I saw them fall to the ground, the scooter got smashed. At first, I didn’t really believe it, but then I heard the girl screaming, so I put my cigarette down, and I started to run to her.”The bus driver remained at the scene and was also seen helping the girls, Mello said.The intersection was closed to traffic while officers investigated but has since reopened.Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact Haverhill detectives at (978) 373-1212.No further information was immediately available.
