While Anupamaa has dominated TRP charts since it was launched, the new season of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi has started off with a bang. Ekta Kapoor, a maverick producer, decided to bring back the iconic show after 25 years with a new season. Smriti Irani who was on a hiatus has come back as Tulsi commanding the highest pay-check in the Indian TV industry for an actor. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 opened strong in Week 30 of the 2025 BARC ratings (7 August 2025), securing a TVR of 2.3.
Did Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu This 2 really overtake Anupamaa?
Media watchers were keen to see how Anupamaa would fare in this Kyunki 2 mania. Even fans were waiting to see the numbers of the TRP chart. Initially, some rumours spread that Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2 superseded Anupamaa however that is not the case. xAnupamaa riding high on brand loyalty
Well, Rajan Shahi’s Anupamaa is right at its top position, sharing the podium with Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2. This proves that old fans have not left Anupamaa for Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi 2, and are rather extending their TV viewing. This is proof of the love and loyalty earned by the show. The plot is centered around Rahi and Pakhi. Anupamaa’s dynamics with her daughters have always grabbed eyeballs. On the other hand, Kyunki 2 showed us the new generation of the Virani family with Angad, Hrithik and Paridhi’s characters coming into play. How Tulsi (Smriti Irani) handles family issues formed the crux of the drama.
Over the years, Anupamaa has earned immense love for its strong but relatable concept of a homemaker sacrificing everything for her family. Women across countries have resonated with the lead character who strives to find her own identity after years of self-sacrifice. It has made people realize that the individual dreams of women who work for a home are as important as those of a typical career woman. Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu 2 is a legacy show. The older version began with a slightly orthodox narrative and addressed issues like patriarchy, marital rape and abuse. Keeping with the times, Ekta Kapoor has shown Mihir Virani (Amar Upadhyay) as a green flag husband while Tulsi is as righteous as ever.
Indian TV shows are dominated by female characters and the success of Anupamaa and Kyunki 2 reaffirm this fact. With both of them topping the charts, it is a time to celebrate creators who bring forth such emotional, deep and insightful stories.
