Thanks almost entirely to his impressive performance in Prime Video’s Reacher, Alan Ritchson has become a dominating force in the action world. In that show, an adaptation of Lee Child’s book series, the actor is required to remain relatively stoic as he lets his physical prowess communicate exactly what it needs to. While Reacher focuses more on his physical capabilities, roles in titles like War Machine, The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, and Blue Mountain State highlight a wider range of his abilities.
Earlier this week, we got the exciting news that shortly after Season 4 of Reacher concludes on Prime Video, the all-new spin-off, Neagley, will launch on the streamer. In addition to a new season of Reacher, we’re also getting the new action movie Motor City, which lands in theaters later this month. The action experiences don’t end there, as we’ve got a trailer for an all-new Ritchson thriller on the horizon.
Runner is set to hit theaters in September, which studio VVS Films describes, “A former soldier is thrown into a race against time as a medical delivery makes him the target of a ruthless cartel.” As seen in the trailer below, Ritchson plays the soldier while Owen Wilson plays the courier with the important delivery.
As confirmed by this trailer, Wilson brings his comedic sensibilities to the project as opposed to Runner requiring him to be an action-forward character, making his on-screen dynamic with Ritchson lean into the buddy-comedy realm. This trailer also confirms, though, that there will be plenty of blood and explosions, with the outing set to deliver something for everyone.
While the next few months are already set to be huge for the actor, there’s still a few potential projects on the horizon that could take Ritchson’s legacy to all-new levels. Namely, as James Gunn fleshes out the DCU, there’s some prime openings that Ritchson could inherit.
Robert Pattinson might already be one version of Batman, but it has been confirmed that this iteration of the character isn’t the official version for the DCU. Ritchson himself has expressed his enthusiasm for playing the Dark Knight, though he revealed the disappointing news that Bruce Wayne seemingly isn’t in the cards.
The actor has already proven he has the physical chops to play Batman, but last August, Ritchson admitted to Variety that he had conversations with Gunn, though confessed, “I strongly don’t think that Batman is in my future. I do think there is something in my future with DC. And I would like that to remain true.”
Still, there are plenty of other heroes and villains Ritchson could successfully bring to life, once his schedule finally clears up.
