BECKER COUNTY, MINN. (Valley News Live) – The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is expanding restrictions on feeding deer and using deer attractants as it works to slow the spread of chronic wasting disease in the state’s wild and captive herds.
The DNR now has deer feeding and attractant bans in place in 37 counties where chronic wasting disease has been found in the wild or on deer farms.
The agency added five more counties to the list: Becker, Clearwater, Grant, McLeod and Meeker.

Wildlife health experts say providing food or other attractants can draw unnaturally high numbers of deer into small areas. That crowding can make it easier for diseases like chronic wasting disease to spread, increase aggressive encounters between animals and, depending on what is offered, contribute to potentially fatal digestive problems.
