Jackson Hospital announces agreement with Blue Cross Blue Shield

  • July 3, 2026

MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – Jackson Hospital posted on social media Friday that it has reached an agreement with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Alabama, which will allow the financially-troubled hospital to remain open. Jackson had sought higher reimbursement rates from the insurer to help with its finances.

The court system recently stopped short of requiring the higher reimbursement rates, but it appears that the two sides have now reached an agreement voluntarily. No details of the deal were immediately released.

The hospital has already received financial commitments from local and state governments.

The hospital posted a brief message to the community on Facebook.

Saving the hospital means as many as 1800 employees will keep their jobs and countless patients will continue to receive medical care at the facility. Had the hospital closed, it could have negatively impacted congestion and wait times at other health care facilities.

WSFA 12 News reached out to Jackson Hospital following the agreement.

“We wanted to share the news with our staff today so they can stop worrying about it and enjoy the holiday weekend.  We’ll issue a press release and hold a press conference next week when we sign the agreement.”

WSFA 12 News also reached out to Blue Cross Blue Shield on the agreement.

“Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama is pleased Jackson Hospital will remain open and continue serving the Montgomery community and River Region.

Blue Cross has worked with hospital leadership and other stakeholders to keep their doors open and provide patients access to the care they need. Throughout this process, our focus has remained on supporting our members and the community.

We appreciate the efforts of all parties involved in reaching this outcome and look forward to continuing our partnership in support of the health and well-being of our customers, the River Region and Alabamians.”
