The price of stamps could be increasing again as soon as Sunday. Here’s what you need to know

  • July 8, 2026

(CNN) – Mailing a letter could soon cost you more.

The U.S. Postal Service plans to raise the price of a first-class forever stamp from 78 cents to 82 cents, pending approval from federal regulators. If approved, the new price would take effect Sunday.

Postcard prices would also go up – with domestic postcards rising to 65 cents and international postcards to $1.75.

The Postal Service says it needs more revenue to help offset rising operating costs as it works to remain self-funded.

Stamp prices have climbed steadily in recent years. For example, a first-class forever stamp cost just 55 cents in 2020. But the USPS maintains its postage rates remain among the lowest in the world.
