Carli Lloyd, a sports pundit and former American soccer star who has won two World Cups, not to mention two Olympic gold medals, is not impressed with the U.S. men’s team right now. In particular, she had words for Christian Pulisic, who is supposed to be its star player. In her unsparing commentary for Fox following the United States’ 4-1 loss to Belgium in Monday’s game, she held the U.S. men’s national team to account.
In her post-match commentary, Lloyd called out Pulisic’s performance. “I gotta be honest, I was a bit disappointed with Christian Pulisic,” she said on Fox. “Whether he wants to be the star of this team or not, we didn’t see enough from him in this particular game and really the whole World Cup. Little glimpses here and there.” Making herself even clearer, she continued, “I think big-time players — you wanted some of those big-time players to step up in big moments.”
Lloyd also declined to get off Pulisic’s neck in the days after he exited from a match two-thirds of the way through due to an ankle injury and said, as a result, that he had “time to rest.” On X, Lloyd wrote, “You rest when your playing career is over. Period.”
