Seaside shelter-in-place lifted after police ‘contact’ double-homicide suspect

SEASIDE — A shelter-in-place order issued Wednesday evening in Seaside was lifted after authorities located a Washington homicide suspect, according to KOIN 6.
Local residents received an emergency alert through Clatsop Alerts at 7:16 p.m. saying there was “heavy police activity ongoing” in the Seaside area and that residents on Sunset Boulevard should shelter in place until further notice.
At 7:33, an alert was sent saying “a suspect has been located and the shelter in place for Sunset Boulevard residents has been lifted.There is no ongoing threat to the public. However, all are advised to continue avoiding The Cove area as the police investigation and presence remains active.”
According to KOIN 6, the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office confirmed around 8:09 p.m. that double-homicide suspect Hayes McCloud had been contacted in Seaside but referred questions about the incident to Oregon authorities. KOIN 6 reported that McCloud, 24, is the suspect in two homicide investigations in Pierce County, Washington.
Investigators say 35-year-old Keitwuan White was found dead inside a home in Puyallup early Wednesday with multiple fatal injuries. Less than 30 minutes later, officers responding to the Hillsdale neighborhood in Tacoma found James Trujillo dead from apparent gunshot wounds.
Family members identified Trujillo as McCloud’s uncle. The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office said investigators believe the two killings are connected and previously warned that McCloud should be considered armed and dangerous.
Seaside Public Information Officer Joshua Heineman said the Seaside Police Department does not have any further information at this time.
“It is a very active investigation ongoing with multiple agencies,” Heineman said.
