IN THE FULL FORECAST. SOUNDS GOOD JOHN. WE’LL CHECK BACK IN WITH YOU IN A FEW MINUTES. HEALTH OFFICIALS ARE MONITORING IOWA’S FIRST CASE OF MEASLES THIS YEAR. OF THIS YEAR, THE PERSON INFECTED WAS VACCINATED AND RECENTLY TRAVELED OUT OF THE COUNTRY. KCCI S NATALIA GOMEZ DEL CAMPO IS LIVE AT THE POLK COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT. NATALIA, THIS CAN BE DEADLY THERE. URGING MORE PEOPLE TO GET VACCINATED NOW. YEAH, THAT’S RIGHT ALEX. IN SPORADIC CASES LIKE THESE DO BECOME MORE COMMON IN THE SUMMER MONTHS AS PEOPLE ARE TRAVELING MORE. HEALTH OFFICIALS DO SAY THAT IT’S A GREAT TIME FOR TRAVELERS OR REALLY ANYONE TO CHECK UP ON THEIR MMR VACCINES. NOW, LET’S KNOW, LAST YEAR, ACROSS THE U.S., OVER 2200 CASES WERE REPORTED NATIONWIDE. IOWA HAD CONFIRMED NINE OF THESE. THIS YEAR, OVER 2100 REPORTED CASES SO FAR ACROSS THE U.S. AND THIS ONE IS THE FIRST ONE OF THE YEAR FOR IOWA. RIGHT NOW, LESS THAN 95% OF POLK COUNTY HAS MMR VACCINE, A RATE THAT POLK COUNTY HEALTH SAYS LEAVES COMMUNITIES MORE SUSCEPTIBLE. AND WITH SCHOOL COMING BACK IN CASES BECOMING MORE COMMON, THIS WASN’T ALL THAT SURPRISING FOR HEALTH OFFICIALS TO SEE. WE’RE PREPARED FOR THIS TO BE A PART OF OUR LIVES FOR THE LONG HAUL. NOW, UNFORTUNATELY, ALTHOUGH IOWA’S HAD LOWER CASES THIS YEAR, IT IS STILL BECOMING ENDEMIC THROUGHOUT THE NATION. WE ARE STILL SEEING POCKETS OF THIS CIRCULATING IN A NUMBER OF STATES, AND WE DON’T ANTICIPATE THAT GOING AWAY ANYTIME SOON. POINT TOLD KCCI THAT IT IS TAKING EXTRA PRECAUTIONS FOR IDENTIFYING MEASLES FOR PATIENTS THAT WALK THROUGH THE DOOR. LIVE IN DES MOINES. NATALIA GOMEZ DEL CAMPO, KCCI EIGHT NEWS, IOWA’S NEWS LEADER. AND THIS IS AN INCREDIBLY INFECTIOUS OR CONTAGIOUS INFECTIOUS DISEASE. THE CDC SAYS IT’S ONE OF THE MOST CONTAGIOUS IN THE WORLD. NATALIA. SO THE POLK COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT SAYS THE PATIENT VISITED SEVERAL PLACES ACROSS CENTRAL IOWA BETWEEN JULY 1ST AND FIFTH, BEFORE THEY KNEW THEY HAD MEASLES. SO KCCI CREATED THIS INFOGRAPHIC SHOWING EVERY EXPOSURE LOCATION, AND THAT INCLUDES THE DOLLAR GENERAL ON EAST OVID IN DES MOINES. YOU CAN FIND THIS USEFUL TOOL ON OUR WEBSITE. RIGHT NOW, THE HEALTH DEPARTMENT IS ASKING ANYONE WHO VISITED A
