BRYANT, Ark. (KATV) — The City of Bryant will be installing new safety measures after an 8-year-old child was swept into a storm drain during Wednesday night’s thunderstorms.

According to a release from the city, the child was swept into a storm drain new Center and Lavern streets and carried through the drainage system before exiting near the Neal Cove area. The drainage basin was originally constructed as part of the Richland Park subdivision and is privately owned.

Officials say the city will install fencing and no trespassing signage around the areas while reviewing other options for safety improvements.
