WINCHESTER, Massachusetts (July 9, 2026) — Winchester Country Club is getting warmer by the hour, as the pressure heats up on those remaining. After the Round of 16 matches Thursday morning, we’re now down to the final eight, who will compete in quarterfinal matches in the afternoon.

Matthew Naumec, who won the title two years ago at his home club, is the lone mid-amateur left standing. Winchester standouts Owen Egan and Aidan Monahan remain on opposite sides of the bracket, leaving open the possibility of an all-Winchester 36-hole final on Saturday. Rising college standouts and one of the state’s top juniors are also still in pursuit of the Massachusetts Amateur title.

By the end of Thursday, only four players will remain, each with a chance to add his name to the generations of champions who have hoisted the Massachusetts Cup. And the champion will also punch his ticket to this year’s U.S. Amateur on the storied grounds of Merion Golf Club (PA).
