MONTGOMERY, Ala. (WSFA) – A new photo exhibit celebrating Alabama’s wildlife, public lands, and outdoor recreation is open in downtown Montgomery.
The Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest Retrospective features nature and outdoor recreation images from 41 photographers who placed in the Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest between 2021 and 2025.
The Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (ADCNR) and the Alabama State Council on the Arts partnered to present the free exhibition at the Georgine Clarke Alabama Artists Gallery, located on the first floor of the RSA Tower at 201 Monroe Street.
ADCNR says the annual contest receives nearly 2,000 submissions each year and highlights photos taken in Alabama using traditional photography techniques and handheld cameras. The contest includes 10 categories, including Alabama State Parks, Scenic, Wildlife, Birds, Nature-Based Recreation, and a Young Photographers division.
The exhibit is open to the public. An opening reception is also scheduled for Friday, July 10 from 2 to 4 p.m., and the public, featured photographers, and media are invited to attend.
ADCNR says the next Outdoor Alabama Photo Contest—for 2027—will be announced later this summer.
