Sophie Cunningham is currently one of the biggest stars in the WNBA. It’s unclear if she’s as big in the real world as she is on the Internet, but there is no debate she’s begun to transcend her sport after spending the last two years playing on the same team as Caitlin Clark.
Over the last couple weeks, she’s really taken off. She became a meme without embarrassing herself, appeared on FOX’s World Cup coverage and acted as an impromptu ring girl at a UFC event. Cunningham is clearly seizing every opportunity right now.
There’s no telling how big she’ll get, but Chuck Klosterman thinks it could be very big. Klosterman appeared on the latest episode of The Bill Simmons Podcast and predicted that she could end up being a candidate for vice president of the United States of America.

“Sophie Cunningham in the next maybe, I’m gonna say, 2050, is going to be vice president of the United States,” Klosterman told Simmons. “She’s going to be Vice President of the United States. I don’t know what party she’ll be in. I don’t know anything about her political views, but she will be the vice-presidential candidate. At least the candidate.”
While Cunningham maintains she’s “right down the middle,” it’s clear that one side is very interested in her as the White House has posted memes of her and she’s been palling around with Dana White.
While retired basketball player and podcaster certainly sounds like someone who will be a vice president in America’s future, Klosterman did not exactly land the plane when it came time to explain his own rational for the prediction.
“There’s something about the fact that she wore those sleeves on the court,” Klosterman continued. “Something about the way she triggers the inbound plays at the end of games makes me think she will be someone’s ideal vice president.”
If there’s anything Tim Walz and J.D. Vance both have in common, it’s definitely sleeves.
