Selena Gomez Makes Personal Admission About Singing Career  originally appeared on Parade.

Selena Gomez made a personal and surprising admission recently.

Last Wednesday, the singer and actress appeared as a guest on Jake Shane’s podcast Therapuss, where she opened up about multiple topics such as her relationship with producer Benny Blanco, her beauty company Rare Beauty, her health, her early acting days on Barney & Friends and Disney Channel and her music career.

21 minutes into the interview, Shane asked the 33-year-old what her favorite Selena Gomez song is, to which she laughed and said “Who Says,” a track she sang while she was still in her band Selena Gomez and The Scene in 2011. The group was active from 2008 to 2012, but took an indefinite hiatus, with Gomez then pursuing a solo music career. “Who Says” was the lead single for the group’s final album, When The Sun Goes Down.

“If you were to ask me, that is hands down my favorite,” she said. “It’s the most powerful moment when I get to perform it. That’s honestly the only reason I would ever do a tour again, is if I can perform ‘Who Says’ like 17 times in a row.”

Written by Muni Long and Emanuel Kiriakou, who also produced the track, “Who Says” was intended to inspire people and tell people to be confident in themselves.

“It’s such a high, and it makes me feel good, and I want other people to feel good. I’ll never forget what that message in that song means,” the Only Murderers in the Building actress continued. “Back then, I loved the song simply because I thought everyone could relate to it. But then, when I got older, I still appreciate that song because I relate to it in a totally different manner.”

Gomez also mentioned that every time she did perform on tour, she would have to “take it down an octave each year” because “it’s up here,” Gomez said in a high-pitched voice. “I need to redo it. I should recut it.”

Gomez recently released her first album in four years, I Said I Love You First, a collaboration with her fiancé, Benny Blanco, following her 2021 EP Revelación. She’s also been busy filming and promoting the popular Hulu series Only Murders in the Building, serving as an executive producer for the Wizards of Waverly Place reboot, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place and running her beauty brand, Rare Beauty.

As Shane put it, “If you recut ‘Who Says’ today, my world would shake.” To which Gomez cheekily replied, “Maybe I should.”
