One man has been arrested after a victim was found deceased in Lone Tree Monday evening. According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, at 7:59 p.m. authorities conducted a welfare check at 217 West Elm Street in Lone Tree. They found a deceased male in the residence. Following an investigation, 52-year old Scott Christopher Powers of Cedar Rapids was arrested by the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
He’s been charged with murder in the first degree.
The victim was identified as 76-year old Richard Powers of Lone Tree. Richard Powers is the father of Scott Powers.
Scott Powers was transferred to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office and taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for treatment.
The case remains under investigation. The Iowa City Police Department, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, Cedar Rapids Police Department, and Johnson County Medical Examiner assisted with the investigation.
