Between them, Spain and France have only allowed three goals during World Cup play as they’ve taken care of every challenge in their path to reach the semifinals, setting up an epic match Tuesday in Dallas. France’s Kylian Mbappe is the current Golden Boot leader of the tournament with eight goals to his name, but it has been far from a one-man show with Ousmane Dembele and Michael Olise also helping make France impossible to defend.
But Spain has been defensively excellent this tournament, and had a record shutout streak come to an end during the World Cup quarterfinal 2-1 win over Belgium, and their midfield will be up for the task in going toe-to-toe with France. While Spain’s own attacking superstar, the recently-turned-19 Lamine Yamal, hasn’t broken out yet during the World Cup with only one goal, all it takes is one game for everything to change. This has been a balanced side, and because of that, we enter a match where things will be decided by fine margins, just as it should be with a World Cup final appearance on the line. France are looking to make it to their third consecutive World Cup final, and they’d become the first team in history to do that, while Spain look to make the final for the first time since winning it all in 2010.
