‘Big Break x Good Good’ announces cast of contestants

The cast for the upcoming season of “Big Break x Good Good presented by Golf Galaxy” was officially announced Wednesday.

Eleven out of 12 competitors have claimed a spot on the highly anticipated return of Golf Channel’s reality competition series set to premiere on August 25 at 8 p.m. ET.

Good Good Golf’s Sean Walsh and Matt Meneghetti were the first two players announced last year, along with Good Good Golf athlete Tom “Bubbie” Broders and Brad Dalke as non-playing team captains. Now, the wait is finally over to see who will join them and compete for a spot in the PGA Tour’s Good Good Championship in November.

The cast at Horseshoe Bay Resort outside of Austin, Texas, includes Jason Day’s friend and former caddie, Asaeli Marika “Bat” Batibasaga. The Aussie has competed on the PGA Tour of Australasia as well as the European Pro Tour.

Josh Jackson also joins the show. The son of former NFL offensive tackle John Jackson, Josh is a top-ranked World Long Driver and competed in the Grass League, following a collegiate career at Kentucky State.

World No. 1 disabled golfer Kipp Popert joins the show. Popert is a four-time U.S. Adaptive Open champion, most recently making history at Woodmont Country Club last week after becoming the only player to win four consecutive USGA championships.

California native Ryder Epson, who played college golf at Long Beach State and now plays in the Grass League alongside his brother Hunter, is in the field. Also hailing from the Golden State is Peter “The Hustler” Lansburgh. Lansburgh has teed it up in one PGA Tour event during his career back at the 2023 Valero Texas Open, but is more commonly known for playing money games around the Bay area.

Jean-Philippe (JP) Mehu of Miami, Florida, founded the club golf program at Florida International University and became the first Haitian player to make the cut at the Latin American Amateur Championship.

German-born Velten Meyer survived a near-fatal car crash in 2019 and won a Challenge Tour event three years later. He’s dreaming of competing on the PGA Tour, as is Jesse Rouse. The Oklahoma born and bred Rouse played golf at Southeastern Oklahoma State and wants to honor his grandfather, the man who raised him and introduced him to the game, by making it to the big leagues.

Mike Sweeney will also join the cast. The part-timer rapper from Enfield, Connecticut, has seen success on the Minor League Tour, with at least two dozen victories. The savvy Sweeney saved money to enter tournaments early in his career by living in his car.

The 12th and final competitor on this season’s reality series will be determined by the first-ever “Big Break Qualifier” on August 7 airing exclusively on GolfPass. New Englander Fletcher Babcock, Californian Murphy Scott, and Nick Bienz, a Golf Galaxy associate in Indiana, will compete for the final spot on the show.
